Stake Energy as a Renewable Energy Developer

Beyond EPC, Stake Energy develops its own solar and wind power projects and supplies clean electricity directly to commercial & industrial clients through multiple commercial structures.

We develop, own, and operate solar & wind power assets across India

As an Independent Power Producer, Stake Energy takes full project development risk — securing land, arranging finance, obtaining regulatory approvals, executing construction, and operating the plant — then supplies power to C&I clients at predetermined tariffs.

This means our clients benefit from clean renewable power with zero capex investment, predictable long-term pricing, and complete operational independence from volatile grid tariffs.

IPP Solar Farm

Open Access Power Supply

Stake Energy develops solar and wind power plants and supplies electricity to high-consumption C&I consumers through the open access framework — bypassing the DISCOM and delivering power at tariffs significantly below prevailing grid rates.

  • Ideal for industrial consumers with >1MW demand
  • Tariff savings of 20–40% versus grid supply typical
  • Managed under short-term or long-term open access approvals
  • Stake Energy handles all state SLDC/RLDC filings and scheduling
  • Available in Rajasthan, MP, Karnataka, Maharashtra, AP, and other open access-friendly states

Captive Power Plants

We develop dedicated solar or wind power plants classified as captive generating plants (CGP) under the Electricity Act 2003. These plants exclusively serve a single industrial consumer's captive consumption, offering significant regulatory advantages and cost savings.

  • Full exemption from cross-subsidy surcharge (CSS) and additional surcharge
  • Dedicated metering and banking provisions for consumption flexibility
  • Structured as CAPEX (client-owned) or OPEX (Stake Energy-owned, zero client investment)
  • Applicable for manufacturing plants, data centres, and large commercial consumers
  • Multi-state feasibility assessment provided

Group Captive Solar Projects

Stake Energy structures and develops group captive solar projects, enabling multiple C&I consumers to collectively benefit from a single large-capacity solar plant. Each participant holds the minimum 26% equity stake and 51% captive consumption share required under group captive regulations.

  • Allows smaller consumers to access captive benefits through collective participation
  • Stake Energy manages equity structuring, project SPV formation, and regulatory filings
  • Participants benefit from CSS exemption without individually owning a plant
  • Flexible entry and exit provisions can be structured in agreements
  • Active projects across multiple states available for participation

Power Purchase Agreements (PPA)

Stake Energy enters into long-term Power Purchase Agreements with commercial and industrial clients, committing to supply a defined quantum of renewable energy at a fixed or escalating tariff over 10–25 year terms. The client gains long-term energy cost predictability; we develop and own the plant.

  • Zero client CAPEX — Stake Energy funds, builds, and owns the asset
  • Fixed or index-linked PPA tariffs with full cost transparency
  • Tariffs typically 15–35% below prevailing grid commercial tariff
  • Stake Energy handles all O&M, insurance, and performance guarantees
  • ESG & carbon accounting reporting provided for RE100 and CDP commitments

Common Questions

Have questions about solar EPC, open access, or PPA structures? Our team is happy to guide you through the options that best fit your business.

Talk to an Expert Stakeholder discussion
What is open access solar and is it available in my state?
Open access allows large electricity consumers (typically above 1MW) to source power directly from generators like Stake Energy's IPP plants, bypassing the DISCOM. Availability and cost-effectiveness varies by state. We conduct a state-specific viability assessment for every potential client before recommending open access as a solution.
What is the difference between captive and group captive solar?
A captive plant serves a single consumer who owns at least 26% equity and consumes at least 51% of the generation. Group captive allows multiple consumers to collectively meet the 26% equity and 51% consumption thresholds — giving smaller consumers access to captive benefits through collective ownership of one shared plant.
What does a typical solar EPC project timeline look like?
A rooftop solar project (100kW–500kW) typically takes 6–10 weeks from contract signing to commissioning. A ground-mounted project (1MW–10MW) generally requires 3–6 months depending on site conditions, approvals, and procurement lead times. We provide a detailed project schedule at proposal stage.
Under a PPA, does Stake Energy own the solar plant on my premises?
Yes. Under a PPA or OPEX model, Stake Energy invests, owns, and operates the solar plant. You simply purchase the electricity generated at the agreed PPA tariff. You bear zero capital cost, and at the end of the PPA term, ownership can be transferred to you at a pre-agreed price if desired.
Which states does Stake Energy currently operate in?
Stake Energy executes EPC projects pan-India. Our IPP and open access projects are currently active or in development in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. We assess new state markets based on client requirements and open access policy outlook.
What are the typical savings from open access or captive solar?
Savings depend on the client's current grid tariff, applicable charges (wheeling, transmission, CSS), and the state's open access framework. In our experience, C&I clients typically save 20–45% on their effective per-unit cost when switching to solar via open access or captive structures. We provide a detailed financial model in our initial assessment.
